You are invited to spend time in our Reliquarium, a place of prayer and reflection, seeking the intercessory help of the holy men and women whose lives merited them the designation of sainthood. Being in the presence of these relics, we have an opportunity to develop our relationship with the saints and to seek their intercession with our Lord for a specific need. May your time in quiet, peaceful veneration bring many blessings in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
Relics date back to the very early days of the Church. There are varying classes of relics, with first class relics being the physical remains of an officially canonized saint or a holy person whose cause for canonization has officially been open by the church. A second-class relic can be an article of clothing, a place or even instruments connected to a martyr's torture or imprisonment. They are objects touched by or to the saint's body or used by the saint. As we venerate the relics, we recall the holiness of the saint as well as his/her participation in the work of God as we seek His grace to live lives filled with faith. Relics are usually contained in small cases called a theca; these theca’s can be placed in a larger case called a reliquary.
Relics are accompanied by authentication documents. These documents contain descriptions of the relic and the reliquary containing the relic, usually in Latin. The documents are signed and sealed by the priest or bishop who issued them, and a matching seal is placed on the inside-back of the reliquary. At Our Lady of the Rosary, we have built a special area called a “Reliquarium” that houses relics from 16 Catholic Saints. Our collection continues to grow and we are very honored and proud to be able to have these “Hall of Fame” saints open to the public for viewing and veneration. This collection contains reliquaries holding relics of a number of different saints, as well as the accompanying documentation for almost all of them. The Saints are:
