Birthright began saving lives and mothers from abortion when it was started over 50 years ago by Louise Summerhill, a Catholic stay at home busy housewife and mother of seven children. Louise felt called by God to do something to help girls and women facing unplanned pregnancies. From that yes, Birthright became an international pregnancy support center with over 200 centers in Canada, US (with 3 in Idaho) and Africa. Birthright is committed to providing confidential, non-judgmental support to any woman who is pregnant or thinks she might be pregnant. We are a charitable organization that relies on volunteers and the generosity of donations to offer a listening ear, practical solutions, referrals, free pregnancy tests and the material aid of baby and maternity clothes to those needing these services. After over 40 years of serving others, Birthright of Boise, is moving our office to Meridian and will open December 1st at 1530 W. State St., Ste A. Please check us out at https://www.birthright.org or https://www.birthrightofboise.com for more information or to donate.
Mary’s Meals
$21 feeds a hungry child one meal per day for the entire school year in their place of learning.
Mary’s Meals is named after Our Blessed Mother. Mary’s Meals is a simple idea…they provide one meal per day for hungry children at a place of learning. This keeps kids coming to school. They started in 2002 feeding 200 hungry children in Malawi, and today they feed 2.2 million children every day in 20 countries across four continents. A problem in the developing world is that hungry children don’t regularly attend school. We know that the promise of a daily meal in school makes a huge difference to children living in poverty – addressing their immediate hunger but also giving them energy to learn and hope for a better future.
MARY’S MEALS is always a partnership between MARY’S MEALS and the community –MARY’S MEALS provides the food, but the community has to grow and care for a simple garden to supplement the meals, build a kitchen (which MARY’S MEALS outfits) and provide volunteers to cook and serve the food. It energizes and motivates the community to value education. MARY’S MEALS is a simple idea that works. They provide school meals to help hungry children to gain an education which could be a ladder out of poverty.
MARY’S MEALS is an efficient charity with over 93% of funds raised going directly to the mission of feeding hungry children in a place of learning. If you were to donate $21 to MARY’S MEALS you could feed a child one meal a day for a year in their place of learning.
As Mother Theresa and St. Therese of Lisieux advocated: Little acts of love can make a big impact in the world. Today there are 61 million children in the world who miss school because of poverty and hunger. There is much more to do.
